Of course, we can get our models close enough to the objective in the movement phase and hope that we have enough firepower to clear it. This allows players to move even their foot-slogging Fire Warriors into a commanding position early in the game, getting their new, improved pulse rifles into that all-important Rapid Fire range from the get-go. The Dark Angels supplement – the fourth such Space Marine chapter supplement – features custom-made “datasheets, Warlord Traits, Relics, and a Psychic Discipline, as well as a suite of Crusade campaign rules that represent the sombre quest of the Unforgiven”, according to GW.

Of course, they do become more dangerous at closer ranges, but once you get within 15″ where this is the case, Breacher Teams suddenly look a lot more appealing. Coldstar – M14, which you can boost with the Tau sept relic (+2″ mv, can reactively moved when charged, opponent can choose new targets) or the Vior’la sept trait on the first turn. there are no stratagems that modify Montka or Kauyon (which I thought would have been a gimme for the rules team) by advancing or rolling back the turn number for a specific unit or giving the OTHER one to a unit for a single phase or something. They have the RR1s to Hit aura for Core units, they give a benefit to a group of Crisis suits, and Exemplar of Montka is a great buff, so yeah, I guess Buffmander still remains in some form. Shadowsun has Full Reroll Chapter Master Buff, does not break Sept Traits if she doesn’t match the army, and is a Supreme Commander. The Tau Empire codex, long-awaited by people who have no interest in power armor, is finally here and I can say with confidence that it was worth the wait.

Tau Codex Markerlight 9th Edition 40k Rules Spotted! New Tau Codex Markerlight 9th Edition 40k Rules Spotted!

Someone got their hands on the codex book a little early it looks like, and has answered/transcribed a ton of rules across a thread and throughout multiple messages. Originallypackaged in the Beast Snagga Orks army box– the introductory set for Warhammer 40k’s newest Ork faction– in July 2021,the book finally hit shelves independently on September 11. He can let a Tau Sept Core or Tau Sept Hammerhead unit within 6″ of him count as having a Markerlight. Thesupplement, like its siblings, provided army-specific datasheets, rules, and bespoke Crusade content for the Space Wolveschapter of Space Marines. Rather than being available standalone, it could only be grabbed as part of the Leagues of Votann Army Set, alongside 20 Hearthkyn Warriors, three Hernkyn Pioneers, an Einhyr Champion, and Uthar the Destined.

It still remains to be seen whether Tau will be a “top tier” faction that ranks up with Custodes, Drukhari, GK, etc, but they most certainly are in the running for being in that group and I think there is virtually no chance that they won’t be a competitively-viable army for at least some time to come, which is what you really want out of a codex.
