After her sister and brother-in-law pass, Ayako (who was in her twenties at the time) decides to take care of her five year old niece Miu when no one else would. Ten years later Ayako and Miu are living next door to twenty year old Takumi, a childhood friend of Miu, who helps Miu with her school work etc. On Takumi's birthday Ayako finds out that her suspicions of Takumi and Miu liking each other are wrong: Takumi is in love with Ayako and has been for years. see me?” Etc etc, which is something that usagi drop completely ignores (which earns it its notorious reputation). There is a good story here. The premise, that a young man finds an older woman attractive and wants to win her over, is not bad and certainly unique enough by virtue of legality. There are some decent jokes - I love the way that everybody (literally everybody) already knows about Takumi’s intentions towards Ayako, for example. Aegis5 - Chikashitsu no Akuma - Kiokushi Series - Agartha Fiesta! - Saigo no Natsu ni Miageta Sora wa - Marginal Blue, Youbi no Kami-sama She and Takumi don’t seem like much of a match, until it becomes apparent that Takumi has shaped a lot of his life based on her advice. They finally get some actual chemistry towards the end when they nerd out over anime, which is the story at its most charming (though you had best believe the breasts are flying in that story too). Age is a funny thing. We've all read manga that equates being over thirty with being middle-aged, and that really drives home the idea that along with being a simple set of numbers that delineates how long you've been alive, age is also very much a social construct and just what that construct is depends on the culture in question. Plenty of manga dance around this idea, either playing it for laughs or titillation and in the case of age-gap shoujo manga, it's often a sign that the heroine is perhaps more mature than her peer group. In the case of You Like Me, Not My Daughter?!, pretty much all of these things are true in one way or another.
Next is her daughter, she starts out very nice and sweet. I liked her no bs vibe, until the love triangle comes, she becomes very disrespectful to her mother, and I don't like how instead of treating her as a mother, she treats her as her rival now, even after all she's done for her. If she wants them to get together so bad, then bruh no need to force this bs. And yet people treat her like a saint when she has her own faults too. We got a potential spicy rom com going on. Though I think that's pretty obvious with a name like You Like Me, Not My Daughter!? Ayako has put her adoptive daughters life before her own for the past decade. But Takumi, a college student, confessing his feelings for Ayako. Her world is sent spinning. Hollywood Pudgy: Ayako invokes this in one of her attempts to dissuade Takkun, showing him how "flabby" she's gotten since she was younger (read: her belly is just a tiny bit softer than it used to be). Like all her Please Dump Me attempts, it doesn't work. VISITOR - Seikon no Joka - The Dishes of Darkness - Hundred Harvester - Gakuen Bugei-cho - Called Gahenna - Nanohazard - EAT-MAN (LN) - Gekkou Majutsu-dan - Dokkoida?! - Devilman THE NOVEL - Happy Salvage - Dark Eyes - Train Raider - Tsuki to Anata ni Hanataba wo - COOLDOWN - TRAIN + TRAIN - Anabel Crescent Moon -Jukon no Biki- - D4 Princess - Masoukishin Psybuster - Chivas 1-2-3 Birth of Outlaw - Remove CurseWhen Ayako's sister died, leaving her young daughter all alone, Ayako stepped up and took the child into her life. Now that her niece/adopted daughter is a teenager, a 30-something Ayako can sense first love in the air. Ayako teases her daughter about Takumi, their handsome and college-aged neighbor, who's been tutoring her since she was young--could they be a blossoming couple, since he's always beaming when he comes to their house? To Ayako's surprise, Takumi isn't interested in daughter dearest: he's long had a crush on Ayako herself! In this age gap romantic comedy, one young man is ready to bring a little sugar to the sexy mom next door. The most unique part of this relationship is that there is a very significant age gap and that the way these characters met involved 1 character going through various stages of early mental development/maturity while the other character witnessed this growth but goes through completely different life stages. IMO the author glosses over the difficulty that Flat storyline. It's basically only from my perspective that everything in this LN just a very flat romcom with nothing to be amazed of except the age gap romance concept.
