About this deal

It fits with my gentle parenting approach apart from the reward system idea but that in itself has encouraged me to think and challenge my existing parenting beliefs – actually if my little one has ADHD then he may struggle with intrinsic motivation (as pushed by gentle parenting) and might well need more extrinsic support, eg rewards. I know I do far better chasing a reward / goal in life, and I can set my own but little dude doesn’t have those skills yet.

Help is at hand! Sarah Templeton, a therapist with ADHD herself, has written this book after working with 100’s of ADHD parents from all over the UK, who have told her “if only I’d known all this stuff while they were growing up”. Sarah’s second book ‘Teachers! How Not to Kill the Spirit in Your ADHD Kids’ helps teachers understand their ADHD’s childrens thoughts, actions and behaviours and gives them the very best ways of managing ADHD in the classroom, ensuring these kids go on to be the leaders and winners they were born to be. Desperate for help with your ADHD children? Tearing your hair out trying to understand why they don’t react or behave like other kids? Want to do the right thing - but don't have a clue what that is? Help is at hand!after listening to a couple of other ADHD kid books, I stumbled on this one. The content is excellent. Even if you are in the US, there is very little that doesn't apply. The narration is great and the personal humor comes across well in the way only an author can express. It avoids all the unnecessary detailed neuroscience and focuses on what it’s actually like to live with or have ADHD. My son was diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago, it was very clear to me that that was what his condition was but I didn’t understand it, I knew about it, I knew what traits he had and what he was like but I couldn’t explain why he does the things he does. So, I didn't give 5 stars overall because not all the information in here is representative of the broad spectrum that is ADHD. The author has her experience primarily with juvenile offenders and this book is skewed towards that and some parents might be terrified that their darling child will become one as well. Trust me not all kids/people with ADHD lie, steal, have violent outbursts... Sarah’s first book, How Not to Murder Your ADHD Kid – Instead, Learn How to be Your Child’s Own ADHD Coach, resonated with mums and dads who, desperate for teachers to understand their children’s ADHD brains, started thrusting copies at them! Those same parents encouraged Sarah to write this book for teaching professionals.

I also found that I learnt a lot about my own ADHD and sometimes felt compelled to hunt down my primary school teachers and demand an apology (I jest, they didn’t know I guess).

This is not just another book. This is a great book….Although aimed at parents, it has something for everyone involved with ADHD kids: teachers, psychologists, doctors, and family. I am not going to lend this book to parents (although I will show it to them) because they need to buy it so they have it on hand to read and reread.” —Pediatric News I’d brought it to help me with my son but actually found it vey enlightening and reassuring for me. I’m newly diagnosed and found this book just cemented things for me. The authors insights are amazing! She is a Counsellor who has combined type ADHD (moderate to severe) but was not diagnosed until she was 51!
