According to overall laptop weight including battery, as of January 17, 2022 based on internal ASUS market analysis comparing Zenbook S 13 OLED (UM5302) with competing products in its class (laptops with an OLED screen measuring 13.3 inches diagonal) from vendors including Acer, Apple, HP, Huawei, Lenovo, Microsoft and Samsung. The R7 6800U is manufactured on the 6 nm TSMC process for higher-than-average, as of mid 2023, energy efficiency. Unfortunately, we don't have comparable performance data from other laptops we've reviewed, as that hasn't been something deemed "important" on non-gaming laptops. We're planning to test the graphics performance of some of the other budget "non-gaming" laptops going forward, to build out our suite of results. Right now, it looks like the Radeon 680M is about 80% faster than Intel's Iris Xe 96 EU graphics solution, which is used in both Alder Lake and the older Tiger Lake. It's also a big step down from the sort of performance you'd get from even a GTX 1650 laptop solution.It is not as fast as a GTX 1650, that is to be expected. After all, this is supposed to be an APU that sustains a 15 to 28W TDP. It is really to see how much of a difference people can expect in 3D applications by moving from the aged Vega to RDNA2. The mobile GTX 1650 will require something like a H series processor to catch up due to higher power limit and also better cooling solution deployed. The efficiency advantage of the new Ryzen 7 6800Uover the current Alder Lake models is much bigger in multi-core tests and contrary to the single-core tests, there is no real performance advantage anymore, either. Even the Core i7-1260P with a much higher power consumption is just slightly ahead in the benchmarks and our results once again show how inefficient Alder Lake is at higher consumption values. The Core i5-1240Pin the Yoga Slim 7 Pro consumes much more power than the Core i7-1260Pin the Yoga 9i 14, but this is hardly noticeable in the performance. I’m not entirely happy with Asus pushing their OLED panels so aggressively, though, and no longer offering any IPS options. This OLED screen sure looks awesome, but I’m mostly using my laptop outside when traveling, so I preffer an anti-glare matte finishing, as well as the hassle-free experience of a proper IPS panel. The other potential deal-breaker for me is the USB-C-only IO, as I preffer having at least access to a USB-A port without requiring an adapter. The previous ZenBook 13 offers a USB-A port and a full-size HDMI, but this 2022 model does not. The Phoenix platform offers Zen4 Cores and Radeon RDNA3 graphics, as well as the latest improvements available with mobile AMD hardware, while the Rembrandt-R hardware is based on Zen3+ Cores and RDNA2 Radeon 680M graphics, as a refresh of the Ryzen 76800U hardware available in 2022-gen devices. Meanwhile in comparison to Intel it's clear that the Ryzen 6000 generation is not as efficient for high-power devices as Alder Lake. The 6800H actually maxes out around 86W, which sees the CPU hit 4.1 GHz all-core, and increasing the power level further doesn't see any more gains to performance. It'll be up to a brand new architecture and node come Zen 4 to close this gap between AMD and Intel for high-power laptops. Gaming PerformanceNevertheless we're pleased to see that in the space of a couple of years we've gone from limited AMD CPU customization options in laptops, to the ability to choose your own power limits within Asus software, which puts the control over performance, heat, and power in the hands of users. We test Windows PCs' graphics with two DirectX 12 gaming simulations from UL's 3DMark: Night Raid (more modest, suitable for laptops with integrated graphics) and Time Spy (more demanding, suitable for gaming rigs with discrete GPUs). Two more tests from GFXBench 5.0, run offscreen to allow for different display resolutions, wring out OpenGL operations. AMD describes the new Ryzen 6000 series as a totally “new connected platform” and some of the features are badly overdue. In Cinebench R23 running at a 45W configuration, in the multithreaded test we can see where the 6800H ends up overall. Compared to the Core i7-12700H it's 9 percent slower, which isn't an amazing result given that AMD previously used to dominate Intel in multi-thread when comparing Ryzen 7 to Core i7. With that said, the margin is relatively small, and we can see performance equivalent to the Ryzen 9 5900HX from the previous generation.
