But they sell a huge variety of workout products and while we recently tried out their Amino Energy pre-workout, we wanted to see if their Gold Standard BCAA could possibly measure up to the standards set by their whey protein. Not only does it allow you to power through your lifts like you’re on aviation fuel, it also allows you to complete your workouts faster too. We found it shortened our workouts by around 10-15 minutes, plus most of our lifts were up too!

Amino Energy does not use any Creatine in its formula and it also has a slightly lower dose of Caffeine (100mg) per serving, compared to Gold Standard Pre Workout (175mg per serving). In our opinion, BCAAs are almost certainly worth investing in, if not for the sheer fact that BCAAs are known to build muscle, promote repair, and reduce fatigue, then for the reassurance that you are getting sufficient BCAAs in your diet - a factor particularly important for vegans and vegetarians. Are there any side effects of BCAAs? The bottom line here is that the only differences between these two products when it comes to the servings are the fact that you take two scoops with Amino Energy and one with Gold Standard. That being said, the actual scoop sizes are different. An essential vitamin we’ve all heard of that’s usually taken to support the immune system and this ties into the immune-boosting side of the supplement. Where vitamin C has been seen to reduce the length of a cold by 8-14% this is a large dose of 200-2000mg. It’s the extras that really grabbed my attention, though. Rhodiola is a really neat herb that is pretty strongly linked to a reduction in fatigue and increase in focus and stress resilience, even the kind of stress you get from work, not just workouts. Two hundred milligrams is a solid amount of rhodiola too, so the dosage isn’t deceptive. (However, I’d have liked to known if it’s one percent salidroside and three percent rosavins, which a lot of studies have shown is the most beneficial kind of rhodiola.) And because it’s tested for banned substances you can use it to give you an edge during competition without fear of breaking any rules. Optimum Nutrition recommends taking 2 rounded scoops which they say is 9.5g and mixing with 350 ml of cold water. Finally, Gold Standard BCAAs is remarkably high in electrolytes. Typically, if they’re included in a BCAA, you’ll probably get one percent or less of the RDI of sodium and potassium, but Gold Standard gives you closer to 4 percent — more potassium than you’ll find in several bottles of Gatorade. It’s also really important that you carefully read the entire label of any supplement you’re thinking of taking for the first time.
