About this deal

We recommend measuring out your servings according to the advice given in this article as scoops are very often inaccurate and can see you using considerably more than you need to. Effectiveness… With Gold Standard Pre Workout, you’re directed to mix one level scoop with into glass of water around 20 to 30 minutes before training. Optimum Nutrition is a large sports nutrition company that’s best known for their whey protein powder, Gold Standard Whey. But they sell a huge variety of workout products and while we recently tried out their Amino Energy pre-workout, we wanted to see if their Gold Standard BCAA could possibly measure up to the standards set by their whey protein. Not only does it allow you to power through your lifts like you’re on aviation fuel, it also allows you to complete your workouts faster too. We found it shortened our workouts by around 10-15 minutes, plus most of our lifts were up too!

Amino Energy does not use any Creatine in its formula and it also has a slightly lower dose of Caffeine (100mg) per serving, compared to Gold Standard Pre Workout (175mg per serving). In our opinion, BCAAs are almost certainly worth investing in, if not for the sheer fact that BCAAs are known to build muscle, promote repair, and reduce fatigue, then for the reassurance that you are getting sufficient BCAAs in your diet - a factor particularly important for vegans and vegetarians. Are there any side effects of BCAAs? The bottom line here is that the only differences between these two products when it comes to the servings are the fact that you take two scoops with Amino Energy and one with Gold Standard. That being said, the actual scoop sizes are different. An essential vitamin we’ve all heard of that’s usually taken to support the immune system and this ties into the immune-boosting side of the supplement. Where vitamin C has been seen to reduce the length of a cold by 8-14% this is a large dose of 200-2000mg. Vitamin C has no impact on the occurrence of a cold unless deficient.Recovery is a breeze on this too and we highly recommend it if you’re looking for something safe to take your workouts to the next level.

They speed up the recovery process after training so you’re ready to hit the weights again sooner. They also greatly reduce the muscle soreness you get after training too. And they also help your muscles burn fat for energy more effectively. Recovery is also excellent with Gold Standard BCAA Powder and you can expect some noticeable fat loss too. How It Tastes…. There’s no caffeine, so while the rhodiola is good for attenuating fatigue (some prefer it to caffeine), it won’t amp you up as much as some pre-workouts. But I think that just makes it more versatile — you can probably take it any time, and although rhodiola might not be a good idea late at night, there’s a lot less discomfort from taking a lot of rhodiola than there is from too much caffeine. So, how do the Gold Standard Pre Workout and Amino Energy compare when it comes to the servings and the directions? As you would expect with a product from Optimum Nutrition, Gold Standard BCAA Powder does what it says on the tin. It’s the extras that really grabbed my attention, though. Rhodiola is a really neat herb that is pretty strongly linked to a reduction in fatigue and increase in focus and stress resilience, even the kind of stress you get from work, not just workouts. Two hundred milligrams is a solid amount of rhodiola too, so the dosage isn’t deceptive. (However, I’d have liked to known if it’s one percent salidroside and three percent rosavins, which a lot of studies have shown is the most beneficial kind of rhodiola.) And because it’s tested for banned substances you can use it to give you an edge during competition without fear of breaking any rules. Optimum Nutrition recommends taking 2 rounded scoops which they say is 9.5g and mixing with 350 ml of cold water. Finally, Gold Standard BCAAs is remarkably high in electrolytes. Typically, if they’re included in a BCAA, you’ll probably get one percent or less of the RDI of sodium and potassium, but Gold Standard gives you closer to 4 percent — more potassium than you’ll find in several bottles of Gatorade. It’s also really important that you carefully read the entire label of any supplement you’re thinking of taking for the first time. It can also see you shaving quite a bit of time off time spent working out as it can dramatically reduce rest times between sets, as well as see you squeezing out extra reps too.The only real negative for me is the magnesium oxide. It’s cheap and poorly absorbing. In a product of this price, I’d expect to see a highly bioavailable, organic form of magnesium like magnesium citrate. BCAAs stands for Branch Chain Amino Acids - which are essential proteins for the body involved in a multitude of functions, in particular muscle growth and repair. Beta-glucans are found in small amounts in foods like oatmeal, shiitake mushrooms and baker’s yeast, and medicinally used to treat people who have weakened immune systems like those suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, stress, or even immune-compromised from radio/ chemo-therapy. However, in these medical settings the beta-glucans are delivered by injection. If, however, you're looking to reduce muscle wasting and fatigue - a smaller 4g dose may be absolutely perfect for you. Are the best BCAAs worth it?
