About this deal

This roundup was edited by Jesse Porter, who got into tequila by way of big, oaky añejos...and then discovered the visceral joy of bright, clean blancos...and then realized that well-balanced reposados represented the best of both worlds...and finally came to accept that he just really loved them all. You may have heard the rumor that the spirit known as mezcal is simply a smoky version of tequila. In fact, the truth is closer to the reverse of that: the term "mezcal" refers broadly to any distillate of the agave plant produced in Mexico, so the spirit called tequila is simply one specific type of mezcal. While government regulations allow for the production of mezcal in nine different Mexican states, tequila may only be produced in five states: Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Guanajuato, and certain parts of Tamaulipas. Addionally, while mezcal may be produced from dozens of different agave varieties—resulting in numerous distinct styles and flavor profiles—tequila may only be produced from the blue Weber agave. Transport [ edit ] Tiadhe bus service. The main bus service of Fuerteventura Fred Olsen Express, as well as Naviera Armas, offers ferry connections between Corralejo and Playa Blanca in Lanzarote On the palate, there is a pronounced pepperiness, along with notes of agave, tropical fruit, especially pineapple, and citrus. There is a distinctive earthy and vegetal note typically associated with raw agave flavors of cut grass, green bean and mint.

On the nose, there are cooked agave aromas accompanied by distinctive vanilla and caramel notes. The Tequila is very fruity, with apple, cherry and citrus notes. There is a bit of smoke, but this is less noticeable than in the Reposado, along with cinnamon and pepper notes. Producers continued making mezcal with Mexico’s many agave species, but it became clear that one particular plant delivered the best spirits. In 1902, Alsace-born botanist Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber classified this species as Agave tequilana Weber azul, or Weber blue agave. On the palate, there are cooked agave notes featuring vanilla and caramel, as well as a bit of vegetal raw agave notes. There are fruit notes of cherry and citrus, along with smoke and spice notes of pepper and cinnamon.

The finish is long and warm, and the aftertaste is reminiscent of cough syrup and dominated by clove. Hacienda Corralejo is open to the public with very limited number of visitors per hour reservations are required. I’m J Highland, and for over 30 years, I’ve been deeply immersed in the captivating world of Tequila, Mezcal, and other agave spirits.

Made with 100% Blue Weber agave, the 40% ABV Tequila has been hand-harvested from the Hacienda’s fields, slow-cooked in stone clay ovens for 36 hours before being fermented and double distilled in column stills and Alembic copper stills imported from Spain, using the 400-year old Charentais method pioneered by Cognac distillers in France. Only 1,600 bottles of Corralejo’s new 25th Anniversary Extra Añejo Tequila have been made, the brand has revealed. The limited edition Tequila, produced in Guanajuato, Mexico, is both a tribute to 250 years of Tequila-making tradition and 25 years of Corralejo Tequila. Throughout the 2010s, the town has grown significantly, with new businesses constantly opening and closing down. The town is also progressively being pedestrianized, starting with the town's main street around 2017 (however this decision to pedestrianize streets has received its share of criticism from the townsfolk). Vandalism has also risen with the long-abandoned replica of the Santa Maria galleon in the old "Europa Baku" theme park having been burned down by vandals in May 2019. Despite this, however, tourism is still going strong, with thousands visiting the town every year. The quality of Corralejo Tequila is clear, and you can taste it in its fresh flavour and smooth, rich notes. The tequila has been made by Corralejo for nearly 250 years, when Hacienda Corralejo was founded as one of the first estates in Mexico to produce tequila commercially. The traditional methods and skills have been preserved and refined to create the Corralejo Tequila of today.San Diego, Calif — Corralejo Tequila, a premium brand deeply rooted in Mexican history, announces the launch of a new permanent core expression, Extra Añejo. The Extra Añejo is heavily dominated by oak, making it a good choice only for those who enjoy the woody flavor profile. Corralejo Tequila Reposado | The most popular tequila has been awarded three Gold Medals in international competition in the past five years! Under Mexican law, Reposado (“reposed”) tequila has to age in wood barrels for a minimum of two months. Corralejo Tequila Blanco | Blanco is a new tequila taken straight from the still. Made entirely from carefully selected agaves, many purists and tequila aficionados claim that Blanco Tequila is the best. It’s true, there is no barrel ageing to soften or disguise the rich, powerful Agave flavor.
