About this deal

First of all, the most common types of sweet sherry are typically referred to as “creams”. Despite the misleading name, cream sherries don’t contain any dairy products but are a blend of naturally sweet sherries and the varieties listed above. Oloroso means “scented” in Spanish given that it does not use flor. The wine is instead fortified to over 17% ABV, which kills any residual yeast following fermentation. Similarly, its flavour profile will have taken on different characteristics. Typically, it reveals notes of dried fruits like raisins and prunes through long ageing while the oxygen imparts flavours of nuts and caramel.

Otherwise, I would recommend something similar to the Plasencia Reserva Original as a good cigar pairing. It’s spicy and although it does have character, it doesn’t have too much body. Therefore, it’s capable of contrasting the wine’s flavours without overwhelming it. Caol Ila would be releasing a 13-year-old that has been matured in 1st-fill Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso-seasoned butts. This is likely exclusively matured in said sherry butt as suggested by the label. Currently, Williams & Humbert is the largest winery in Europe, and its distributor, Sovisur, distributes all its products together with wines from other denominations such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda or Rías Baixas.Sherry is best known as a dry fortified wine. Indeed, port tends to get the limelight where sweet fortified wines are concerned. You can also learn about it with our guides to port wine. Mac-Talla, meaning "Echo" in Scottish Gaelic, is a range of single malt Scotch. It is not a distillery itself but rather a brand owned by the independent bottler, Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers - a family-owned company that has been involved in the whisky industry for generations.

When you take part in a traditional Scottish whisky tasting experience with us, you’ll sample some of the finest whiskies from around the globe. Scotch whisky Created by distilling fermented grains, the Scottish have been distilling whisky since the 12 th century and this rich liquor soon became a firm favourite amongst royalty. In the 18 th century a tax was imposed on alcohol production in Scotland, leading to many distilleries looking for creative ways to avoid detection. This led to much of the production taking place at night and led to the term ‘moonshine.’Compared to the blended creams listed above, a PX sherry is naturally sweeter at over 212 grams per litre, which is why it’s often used as a sweetener in itself.

Canasta Cream is a generoso wine produced by Bodegas Williams & Humbert in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) within D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry. Next up is another unpeated release that was distilled on the 28th October 1998 and filled into American Oak casks before being transferred to first-fill Manzanilla sherry casks on the 25th May 2016 to finish. Nose As a result of the ageing process, fino sherry is typically a pale yellow colour and retains its fruit flavours thanks to low exposure to oxygen. It will usually taste like apples and almonds while the flor lends hints of bread dough and biscuits. Whisky is as synonymous with Scotland as tartan and golf, and a club as prestigious as Dundonald Links deserves a whisky tasting room to match this traditional pastime. First up, we have an unpeated, non-age-stated release that was matured in William and Humbert Canasta sherry casks, also known as "cream sherry" casks. These casks have historically held a mixture of Oloroso (75%) and Pedro Ximenez (25%) sherries. NoseNevertheless, I wouldn’t leave it longer than a week or so before finishing it otherwise it may start to lose its flavour and turn a bit sour. Scotch whiskies are made from malted barley and are aged for no less than three years. To be a true Scotch malt, they must be distilled in Scotland, like our very own Dundonald Links whisky.
