About this deal
The book is divided into three sections: a general overview section on history taking and the general examination provides the framework on which to hang the detail, the systematic examination section documents clearly the relevant history, examination and special investigations as well as giving advice on their significance, the final section covers specialised areas and emphasises an integrated and structured approach to these patients. The first part of the book addresses the general principles of good interaction with patients, from the basics of taking a history and examining, to the use of pattern recognition to identify spot diagnoses. I'm not a Doctor, I'm a software developer but I read all medical books jus for interest incl - Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, MicroBiology, Pathology, Parasitology, Community Medicine, Gyn Obs, Surgery, Medicine, ENT, Optho. Pictures are also included to help relate the text to an image which i found very helpful so you know what to look for (although these may be graphic).
Integrated with the online text are clinical examination videos of trained professionals performing many of the examination routines described in the book with a new accompanying commentary by the Editor, Professor Colin Robertson Two new videos show how the Glasgow Coma Scale should be performed in clinical situations, demonstrating the correct techniques and also common pitfalls in using the GCS. Macleod's Clinical Examination is enhanced with 32 supplementary videos demonstrating key clinical examination routines described in the book, many new and revised for this edition in line with latest guidance and best practice. I only discovered the gems contained within this book when my OSCE's were approaching as it had been collecting dust on the shelf and I was kicking myself that I hadn't read it earlier. The third section covers examination in specific situations and emphasises an integrated and structured approach to these patients. This feature also has videos that demonstrate the examination (great revision for the dreaded osces).Information provided covers clinical examination and diagnostic characteristics for all ages, which is advantageous and relevant to all aspects of health care.
Though the book is geared towards those working in hospitals, in particular doctors etc, the way it is set out is easy to filter what is and what is not relevant to me. Once you have downloaded the app, your eBook will be available on your Kortext digital bookshelf and can even be downloaded to view offline anytime, anywhere, helping you learn without limits. The final part covers preparation for assessments of clinical skills and the use of these skills in everyday practice. The systematic approach to examination and potential diagnosis is structured well and will be a great learning and revision aid.
