I loved how many twists and turns and secrets were revealed and I loved how realistic a lot of the characters actions and struggles were. And then Jay’s husband says those fateful words – “I have something to tell you” – and suddenly we’re thrust into a marriage teetering on the brink of breakdown, full of guilt and reproaches and tears and shouting and, from me, yawning.
At times gut-wrenching and always honest, Chasten’s story makes us laugh and root for ourselves in this profoundly personal yet necessary story about hope, inclusion, and allyship. P., listening to talk radio or the local country music station, until the only signs of civilization were the occasional pasty stand (a meat pie native to the U.I’m definitely out of synch with contemporary crime fiction – it happens all the time that I’m heavily critical and then discover the book has thousands of enthusiastic fans!
