Dom Perignon Rose Champagne 2000 75 cl
About this deal
After fleeting aromas of rose, orange oil and saffron, the bouquet becomes warmer, dominated by red fruit followed by touches of cassis and fig and sweet notes of gingerbread and liquorice. Offers great length, very vibrant and vinous on the finish, a great food companion with promising ageing potential. Supremely understated, yet there is so much complexity underneath the pretty, flowery veneer: cranberries, grapefruit, and a delicate note of raspberry.
Rose petal, passion fruit and exotic flowers add shades of dimension to the wine’s decidedly flamboyant personality.Critic tasting note: (2008 vintage) "Medium salmon pink, delicate pinkish glints, silver touch, persistent, creamy mousse. The 2002 Brut Rose explodes from the glass with endless layers of huge, voluptuous fruit, A big, full-bodied wine, the 2002 is probably the most overly vinous, intense Rose ever made by long-time Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy. The weather was mostly warm with little rain, however a heatwave in August followed by a cool and rainy September moderated initial anticipation.
The growing conditions in 2004 were superb with no weather extremes, a relatively cool August and plenty of sunshine prior to harvest, which contributed to a very healthy crop. Complex, taut and savoury on the palate, ripe cherry nuances, silky and underpinned with fine, salty minerality. Intense nose offering roasted nuts, nougat, pain d’épices, rose petal and seductive fruit like wild raspberry and peach. Savory notes that are on the edge of vegetal and a real feeling of tannin from the 27% still red Pinot in the blend give the 2005 a decidedly savory edge. The combination of fresh, strawberry, brioche, apples, almonds and orange peel, with zesty acidity, and effervescence was a big hit in my glass. A useful resource for hunting down that rare bottle or a birthday-year wine for a loved one’s special day.
